July 6th Last day in Kigoma

Last day in Kigoma
Hope of the Nations
July 6th
It’s so strange to think that this is our last day here!
This STM has gone by so quickly!
Our heads are full of the memories we’ve made together- visiting the various Hope of the
Nations properties, spending a lovely evening of food and fellowship with Harold and Coni
Knepper, the wonderful, friendly nationals we’ve encountered and their warm hospitality, the hustle and bustle of daily life in Kigoma with small shops and hopeful street-vendors lining the roads, the bajajis careening up and down the roads and side-streets alongside motorcycles and pedestrians, the tasty and unique foods we’ve tried, how both the Christian and Muslim cultures co-exist in mostly amicable terms, and the amazing ministries God led us to join Him in!! We had a fairly low-key day of breakfast. Later in the morning, our group went to back to the primary school to visit the school while it is in session, to meet the administrators, teachers, and to greet the children in their classrooms. As this is an English only school, each classroom of kids greeted us in English. We were impressed by their language skills and their calm, mature behavior.
On our return to the college, we finished packing all of our luggage. We did a bit of last-minute shopping and spent some of the afternoon relaxing or napping in anticipation of our very long return trip home.
In the evening, we said a bittersweet farewell to all of the buddies that have partnered with us these last many days. They worked tirelessly under the leadership of Harold’s right-hand man, Moses, to plan, manage, entertain, and minister to the kids we reached out to at the 3 day youth camp in Igalula, and at the 3 day VBS and leadership conference in Kigoma.
These young adults (many of whom attended Kid’s Clubs as children years ago) are the bridge to the gospel and a shared hope in Christ for children and youth in the area. Each one plays an intrinsic part as a Kid’s Club leader in a local church, or as a teacher in the HOTN primary school, It was a blessing and surprise when they presented each of us with a beautiful photo plaque of our team with the buddies!
Thank you to all of these hard-working, wonderful people who made the last 18 days possible:
Moses
Fadhili
Saidi
Rashidi
Paris
Jeremiah
Giadi
Aggrey and his wife, Christina
Lois
Christina
Nico (translator)
Shukuru
Sylvester
Dorcas
And of course, Harold and Coni!
Moses drove us to his nearby home (at the original site of HOTN!) for a delicious homemade dinner where we were joined by his wife Diana and his 3 children.
We retired for bed early. Tomorrow will be a very, very long day returning home to Gilroy.
